Marriage Preparation / Strengthening

Expert support for couples at every stage of married life

Marriage is a lifelong commitment that deserves ongoing care, from the earliest days of engagement through every season that follows. Whether you are preparing to marry, strengthening a relationship that is already solid, or working through a harder patch together, our therapists are here to help you build a stronger, more connected partnership.

Couples come to marriage preparation and strengthening work for very different reasons — some are getting ready for the commitment itself, some want to invest in a relationship that is already good, and some are navigating a season that has grown harder.

Sessions focus on realistic expectations, communication tools, and structured conversations that make space for both spouses to be heard.

This may be right for you if...

  • You are preparing to marry and want to build habits that last, not just plan the wedding
  • A major life transition — a new baby, a move, a career change — is straining the relationship
  • Conflict that keeps recurring despite your own attempts to fix it
  • Feeling like you have grown apart after years together
  • Wanting a neutral space to be heard, not just to "win" the discussion

Marriage counselling and preparation in Singapore

Marriage counselling is support for married couples who want to understand each other better, work through conflict or rebuild trust. Marriage preparation does the same work earlier: helping engaged couples talk openly about expectations before they become disagreements. Couples come to us about communication that has turned into criticism or silence, conflict over money, children or extended family, the strain of a new baby or caring for parents, trust that has been broken, and growing apart after years together.

PREPARE/ENRICH relationship assessment

For couples preparing to marry or wanting to strengthen an existing marriage, we offer PREPARE/ENRICH, a widely used relationship assessment. Each partner completes an online questionnaire separately, covering areas such as communication, conflict resolution, finances, family of origin, roles and expectations. You then meet with a certified facilitator for feedback sessions that turn the results into focused conversations about your strengths and growth areas as a couple.

How marriage counselling sessions work

In the first session your therapist listens to both of you — what brought you in, what each of you hopes will change, and what is already working. Sessions give each spouse space to speak and be heard without it becoming a contest. Therapists draw on emotionally focused and attachment-based approaches, helping couples notice the cycle they get stuck in and try new ways of responding. Couples of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds are welcome, and sessions can include your values and beliefs where they matter to you.

What to expect

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between marriage counselling and marriage preparation? +

Marriage preparation is for engaged couples or those planning to marry, and focuses on expectations, communication and building strong habits early. Marriage counselling is for married couples working through difficulties or wanting to strengthen their relationship. Both use similar skills, and many couples benefit from either.

What is PREPARE/ENRICH? +

PREPARE/ENRICH is a relationship assessment in which each partner completes an online questionnaire, followed by feedback sessions with a certified facilitator. It highlights your strengths and growth areas as a couple across topics such as communication, finances and family.

Can we come if only one spouse is willing? +

Yes. One spouse can start individually, working on their own responses and how to raise concerns. Some couples begin this way and attend together later.

Is marriage counselling confidential? +

Yes. What you share stays within your sessions, except where there is a serious safety risk or a legal requirement. Your therapist will explain how they handle anything shared individually during couples work.

Do you offer faith-sensitive marriage counselling? +

Couples of all faiths and cultures are welcome, and your therapist can include your values and beliefs in the work where that is important to you. If you are looking for counselling within a specific religious framework, let us know when you enquire so we can discuss fit.

How much does marriage counselling cost? +

Fees depend on the therapist and session length. Our fees page lists current rates, and you can message us to confirm the rate before booking.
